Riding the monorail is a must-do when in Seattle. It, like the Seattle
Center district, is the legacy of the 1962 World’s Fair.
It has run continuously longer than any other monorail on the planet.
The 74-acre site used to be a Native American ceremonial ground,
followed by traveling circuses. It wasn’t until the fair
, that it assumed its present state. Over 7,000 passengers board
the rail daily, between Westlake Center and Seattle Center, the
city’s entertainment core. This vibrant and bustling area
boasts many attractions including amusement park rides, the famous
Space Needle in which you can take trips in its glass elevator,
museums including the spectacular Children’s Museum, various
galleries and the Pacific Science Center. Seattle Center also boasts
opera, ballet and some superb theatre companies. The center is
also home to the city’s biggest festivals. After spending
a hard day shopping in some of the area’s delightful places,
take a leisurely walk through Sculpture Garden and Peace Garden
southwest of the Needle, or have a snack on the grass by the International
Fountain.
The monorail runs every 10 minutes daily. It’s times are from
7:30am to 11pm on Monday to Friday and 9am to 11pm on Saturday and
Sunday.
